The Surf :
(Punta
De Mita Mexico Surf Forecast and Surf Reports)
Winter:
The Surf, well lets talk about
the surf. The state of Nayarit receives swell from the North, West,
and South. Working best on Northwest swells, where the energy is focused
upon the many points and reefs of the area.
The winter
or dry season (November- April) is when the trade winds blow off shore
all day, allowing for multiple surf sessions. This also cuts down on
the agro affect in that there is a longer window of surf, unlike other
areas in mainland Mexico, which will often blow out at 10:00 a.m. daily,
leaving you more time to read then to surf! Due to our location we have
access to go surf other reefs and points that may be breaking better
or more exposed to the swell direction. With the water temperatures
averaging between 75-80 degrees and the air temperature about equal,
it's most commonly described as “Paradise”. The wind blows
out of the mountain jungles and canyons that lie in the distance and
create the offshore breeze that Punta de Mita is known for. The wave
height can be anywhere from 2-10ft and bigger, especially when those
huge Northwest ground swells march down the coast. It is recommended
you bring a fish and mid-size thruster if possible, Please
Limit Yourself to 2 Surf Boards per Person!!!.
Board rentals and lessons are available upon request.

Summer:
The summer
months are hotter but in exchange offer bigger surf. The warmest
months are May- Septmeber and begins to cool off again in October.
This is the time of year when the southern hemisphere swells start to
light up the coast, sending us their wave energy but not turning the
surf into a series of 20 foot closed out beach breaks like that of the
spots further south. The surf is generally about 4-12ft and sometimes
much bigger. When the south-west swells get this big the summertime
points and reefs in the region start to show up, like of the infamous
Machachin bay, with rides over 2km long! This time of year offers great
surf with fewer crowds!

Just another day in paradise.
